COVID Testing Available!

Moundsville Pharmacy is offering COVID-19 testing – including a Rapid Antigen test, a saliva collection PCR test, and a fingerstick Antibody test. Here’s what you need to know for each test:

Saliva PCR COVID Test

COVID-19 “PCR” saliva testing is typically used if patients have symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive. It is best to wait three to five days from the time you were exposed before you test, or at first sign of symptoms. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing detects genetic material from the SARS-CoV-2 virus and indicates active COVID-19 illness.

Test is non-invasive with a saliva collection in a sample tube. Results will be delivered to patients by email or phone within 24-48 hours. If you have symptoms, patients will be encouraged to stay in their car. Patients will receive a report of their results, signed by a pharmacist, and all results will be reported to the state database.

There is no charge for PCR saliva testing through WVDHHR funding. Testing is available to anyone!

Rapid COVID Antigen Test – now include testing for Influenza A & B!

Rapid antigen testing is typically used if patients have symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive. It is best to wait three to five days from the time you were exposed before you test, or at first sign of symptoms. In addition, the test kit also detects the presence of Influenza A & B.

This is a RAPID Diagnostic Test – which means patients will know whether they are POSITIVE or NEGATIVE within 15 minutes. If you have symptoms, patients will be encouraged to stay in their car. Patients will receive a report of their results, signed by a pharmacist, and all results will be reported to the state database.

The cost is $75.00 and must be paid at the time of testing – unless being billed to an employer group. Moundsville Pharmacy is UNABLE to bill insurances for lab services – if you would prefer the testing be billed to insurance, testing can be scheduled through other providers in the community who are able to bill for lab services.

COVID Antibody Test

COVID-19 Antibody testing is NOT a diagnostic test used to identify ACTIVE Covid-19 cases, but instead used to identify patients who may have been exposed and have produced antibodies to the Covid-19 virus. The test is reported as over 90% accurate and is used for informational purposes only.

WHY test for antibodies?
Many patients believe they may have already had the Covid-19 virus, but did not experience any symptoms, did not complete testing to diagnose Covid-19, or tested negative on the rapid antigen test. By testing the antibodies, patients would have additional information to support whether or not they were exposed and contracted Covid-19 in recent months.

WHAT does the test measure?
This test checks blood for antibodies that may have developed from a past COVID-19 infection, specifically the IgM and IgG antibodies. The IgM antibodies are the first to be produced after an infection and typically disappear within 4 weeks. The IgG antibodies are produced later and may continue to show positive for over 50 days.

HOW does the test work?
The test is a small blood spot test requiring a single prick of the finger – similar to testing blood sugar. The test results are available in 15 minutes.

WHEN can I get testings?
Testing is being offered on Monday through Friday – from 10am til Noon and from 3pm to 5pm. Additional times can be scheduled by appointment. Patients will receive a “Test Results Form” which indicates which antibodies are testing positive in the blood.

TESTIMONIALS EXAMPLES
Although the continued production of antibodies may vary person to person, the pharmacy tested a patient who was exposed to the virus in July that was still producing some antibodies in December. In another example, the pharmacy tested a patient who was exposed to Covid-19 through a family member but did not believe they had the virus – however, upon testing for antibodies a month later, the patient tested positive indicated they may have had an asymptomatic case of Covid-19.
